As I mentioned, Lorrendar has several similarities to Terra, as well as many differences. I thought it might be interesting to compare the two and show you how they're alike and different.
Atmosphere. First of all, obviously, they have similar atmospheres that make them both capable of sustaining human life. Lorrendar's air is composed of about 75% nitrogen, 23% oxygen, and 2% other gases. Terra's air has about 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and 1% other gases. This results in Lorrendar's people having slightly smaller lung capacities than those on Terra.
Gravity. If you think of Terra as having 1 gravity, then Lorrendar's gravity is about .87 gravity. You'd think that this would mean people on Lorrendar could jump higher than people on Terra, but this isn't so. Muscle and bone development are largely dependent on how strong gravity is, so the lower gravity on Lorrendar results in less muscle and bone development of its people.
Humans on both planets can jump about the same height on their native world, though a human from Terra could jump higher when on Lorrendar. Of course, objects fall with a slower rate of acceleration on Lorrendar, approximately 28 ft/sec2 compared to 32 ft/sec2 on Terra.
Continents. Terra has seven continents. I understand they are Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. Lorrendar has five continents. They are Doohram, Entilgia, Ghanfalm, Khondrahn, and Rhalgroor. My country, Noordan, is located on Entilgia.
Oceans. Oceans on Terra cover about 70% of the planet's surface. Oceans on Lorrendar also cover about 70% of its surface.
Rotation. Lorrendar's rotation is such that sunrise occurs in the south and sunset in the north. All of the five continents lie somewhere on this line or just to the east or west of it. This means Lorrendar has no continents that experience the extreme cold weather conditions of Terra's Antarctica.
Time. Lorrendar takes approximately nineteen hours, as measured by Terra's clock, to rotate once on its axis. On Lorrendar, we divide the day into twenty hours, with time referred to as 1 - 20. We do not use a.m. or p.m. times. We also do not use minutes. Instead, we say, "Meet me a little before half past 14," or "I'll be there at a quarter before 9." These expressions narrow time increments down to about 1/12 of an hour (just under five earth minutes), which is close enough for us. We aren't as time conscious as most Terrans.
NOTE: In the story, Harold converted our time increments to minutes. He said it would be easier for you to understand.
